Facebook ,the most used social media platform in the world has once again become security risk for the internet users because the mobile phone numbers of million of the people linked to facebook are leaked online.
According to a tech website Tech crunch report , million of the users whose phone numbers have leaked are from the united states, from the United Kingdom and more than 50 million are from the vitenam.
Acoording to the reports, the affected data was taken offline after the problem was identified.
The leaked data is what facebook collected through a tool, which was abondened a year ago due to the fall of the "cambridge analytica" company. with the use of this tool facebook collected personal data of its users without their permission.
it was revealed through a blog written in april 2019 that facebook users can find anyone by phone numbers.
Facebook cheif technology officer, mike skraffer says that , the stylized elements also used this feature to to find people through their phone numbers and emails and retrive their data.
He added that we believe that this feature will have the personal data of a large number of users using facebook, so we are now turning off this feature.
Facebook spokesperson quoted it as saying that it is old data that was leaked a year ago before the feature changed, Now the data has been protected and we have no evidence of any compromise regarding the data.
A social media web spokesperson says investigations in to the data leak have also been launched.
